Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities: The Report

We at EMF take note of the report published by the Government appointed Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities.

Whilst we will study the implications and recommendations in more detail, our initial concern remains that the makeup of the panel did not reflect the expertise of best suited individuals available in the country. We are concerned by reports of consultees such as Mr S I Martin, who is named as one of the “academics and individuals” under the list of stakeholders the authors consulted but has subsequently denied ever being consulted. Questions thus arise as to the credibility of this Government sponsored report.

The implication of the report downplaying structural racism is not something we recognise. This commission had an opportunity to influence fairness and equality in modern Britain that has been missed.
